A MAN LIKE CALEB

Scripture: Joshua 14:6-15

“But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit in him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.” Numbers 14:24 (KJV)

Caleb is a shining example of a man who used his position and influence to bring about the desired changes in his life and people. Of the tribe of Judah, God testified of him that he had a different spirit and wholly followed God (Num. 14:24). He was one of the 12 sent to spy the land and he used his influence to steer the people in the right direction.

Caleb’s devotion to God is seen throughout his life and God greatly rewarded him. God set him apart as one of only two exceptions in his generation. All others died in the wilderness but he and Joshua alone survived to enter the promise land (Num. 26:65). His influence in Judah did not wane (v.6). God preserved his strength to the extent that in his old age, he was still able to go to battle (v11, Jos 15:14). God preserved and gave him his inheritance in the promise land (v.13) and God gave him rest (v.15).

Caleb was this blessed because of his devotion to God (Duet. 1:36). Even when the people opposed him and threatened to stone him, he did not waver but spoke what God had put in his heart (Num. 14:6-10, Jos. 14:7). This is the level of devotion we should have for God. That in all things, we would follow wholly after him. Both when it is convenient and when it is not. Dedicate yourself wholly to God and to service in his kingdom. Let the testimony about your devotion come from God Himself. In due time, God will reward you.

PRAYER:
Lord, I see in Caleb the level of devotion you expect from me. Help me to live at this level in Jesus name, Amen.

FAITH BYTE:
I follow the example of Caleb in devotion to God.
