LEADERSHIP INFLUENCE

Scripture: Numbers 13:30-33, 14:1-4

“For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.” Isaiah 9:16 (KJV)

The main reason for leadership is for the leader to use his influence to motivate the people into action. A leader is meant to encourage the people to overcome their fears, anxieties and worries, and step out to create changes in their lives and communities. This is the power of a true leader; he can move the people to do good or to do evil.

This was the responsibility that God gave the 12 men sent to spy the land of Canaan (Num. 13:4-16). Caleb fully understood this and was motivating the people into action. However, 10 of the others did not grasp God’s intention and used their influence to make the people rebel against God. The people were so discouraged they were willing to usurp their God-ordained leaders and return to slavery (Num. 14:3-4). These men misused their leadership influence and moved the people in the wrong direction. This is why the bible says they gave an evil report.

Today’s passage highlights the failure of leadership influence. The lone voice of Caleb was drowned by the cries of poor leaders. Men like Hitler have influenced people to do evil, while others like Martin Luther King have moved the people to fight oppression. How are you using your leadership influence? In what direction are you steering the lives of your children and spouse. What impact do you have in your neighbourhood and place of employment? Use your influence to draw people to God and make positive changes in your locality.

PRAYER:
Lord, I choose to use my influence for good. Help me make the right choices that will impact people’s lives positively in Jesus name, Amen.

FAITH BYTE:
I am a person of influence. I lead people in the right direction.
