RAISE A SUCCESSOR

Scripture: Judges 2:6-15
“…and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from the town of Abel-meholah to replace you as my prophet” 1 Kings 19:16b (NLT)

One of the tragedies in life is dying without a legacy. Many great men have come and gone, but their greatness dies with them. Their legacy ended when they died because they failed to raise a successor who will continue the work they have started. They failed to do this because they were not generational thinkers. Global companies like Coca-Cola have survived several generations because the founder set up a system of succession that has outlived them.

Moses mentored and prepared Joshua to succeed him and he eventually transferred his authority to him. But Joshua failed to raise anyone in his place. There was no one to continue his legacy and guide Israel. Soon a generation arose that had no experience of God and failed to acknowledge God. The end result was that Israel failed to drive out all the Canaanites (Jdg 1:21-34) and that God himself turned against them. The good works of Joshua did not outlive the next generation because Joshua failed to raise a leader to continue in his place.

God thinks generationally. When He blesses or curses a man, the generations after him are impacted. He gives laws to a people and it is binding on generations to come. The entire human race is as one man before God, therefore he deals with man in progression. He gives wisdom and instruction to one man and the next generation is meant to build on that and advance to a higher level. Elijah had Elisha, David had Solomon and Jesus had his disciples. Who are you preparing in your place? When you leave will the work continue or will it collapse. Whether it is your ministry, home, office or business. Start thinking generationally and start to raise a successor today.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me duplicate my life positively into another in Jesus name, Amen.

FAITH BYTE:
I am faithful to teach others as I have been taught.
